21st Birthday Party: How to Plan your own Dessert Table

Dessert Tables are so crazy expensive when you get someone else to arrange it for you?? If you do not want to spend time and effort fretting over it, then I guess it is a good option to spend that extra money to save yourself some time. Personally, I like to do things on my own, so read on to find out what you can do too!

1. Decorations

I bought several items from ezbuy for my dessert table! It is not super cheap but it is cheaper than buying/ renting it from a Singapore seller.

Disposable Table Cloth (Optional)

Just a white waterproof layer LOL (137x274cm), place this on your table before putting on the next layer, I did it because I wanted to make the pink in my table cloth more obvious.

Pink Glittery Table Cloth

I looove this glittery shit, they have 7 colours to choose from and I got 6metres worth of it.

Pro Tip: Always buy extra if you are unsure how much looks good enough, because you really dont' want to end up with a table cloth that barely covers the table top.

Rose Gold Confetti (Optional)

I got this just because I liked it and I sprinkled it all over the table before setting it (but it serves zero purpose HAHA). So if you are looking to save some money you might want to skip it. But I loved it, I didn't even finish one pack so yay more for next time!! I got the rose gold mix and it's PERFECT.

I got the smallest set available but they have a lot of different combinations for you to choose from

The craftsmanship isn't that great because the tier and round displays are slightly off center. But it is not very obvious so it is still quite worth the money!

Candles

The candles screwed up BIG TIME. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT PLEASE DON'T SCROLL PAST IT

IMPORTANT NOTE: Apparently candles can only be shipped by SEA, which take ages and it is literally the equivalent of snail mail because the party is over and the candles are still. not. here.

If you have more than 3 weeks to spare, then great!!

THE ALTERNATIVE, which is extremely pricey because I didn't have time to search further was candles from SPOTLIGHT (@ Plaza Singapura), which cost me $7.50 for a pack of 12. Ouch, it felt like someone stabbed me in the heart, with a candle. So don't be like me, search early, or basically just use normal candles :)

3. Pastries

Cupcakes and Tarts

I didn't manage to eat any tarts but I heard from others than it was pretty good! However, the aesthetics of the tarts were different from what I discussed with the baker. So it's best to emphasize to your bakers if you don't want any design variations.

The cupcakes on the other hand were both pretty and yummy too!! But tarts were still more popular among the guests, probably due to the ease of eating bite sized desserts.

Macarons and Cookies

I had a really good impression of this baker from her Instagram page, but was kind of disappointed with the desserts I got from her. Firstly, during communication, there are instances where she takes days to reply my messages and merely tells me that she was busy after so many days. Also, just a few hours before my collection, I believe she was still rushing my orders.

The macarons which I got from her were all different sizes, and because they were so inconsistent, it was really difficult to stack them evenly as well. Plus, I ordered Dark Chocolate Macarons from her, turns out there was no dark chocolate cream, but a piece of dark chocolate within the filling (???) I was shook.

I also got cookies from her, which were supposedly customized, but came in a completely different design from what we agreed on. The worst part is the fact that the gold letter on my cookie was supposed to be handwritten, but turned out to be in formed with edible gold beads instead.

Generally (and I use generally because I'm trying to be nice), the cookie still looks pleasant, but it was nothing like what I had ordered. I paid $3.50 for each tiny "customized" cookie because I expected better aesthetics.

4. Birthday Cake

Confession: My cake colour was a mistake (it was supposed to be a white base with pink roses) but I guess it still turned out quite nicely. Honestly, the cake doesn't taste that great, it is just butter cake with chocolate cream, but the reason I ordered it was because it was cheaper than so many other bakeries!

The bottom tier was 12inch and top tier was 8 inch, both tiers were also made taller. The box which they stored the cake it was WAAAY too small though, which caused the cream at the sides to be smeared when opening it. Thankfully, one side was not smeared and could be used for the front or else it would have been disastrous.

Pro Tip: Do prepare something (preferably a nice and stable box) to elevate your cake above the rest of your dessert table so it would look more aesthetic (see photo below).
